The Greenhouse
The Garden. We spend most of our time tending to our garden and flowers around the homestead. The food we grow gives us joy and sustenance during the dark winter months. We turned the deck into a greenhouse in summer and a rabbitry in winter. When we covered the deck and enclosed it, we put a lexan roof on. The south side stays really warm in summer and gets plenty of sun. We plan to cover the garden and extend the greenhouse. This summer We plan on expanding the garden to the back yard and putting up a moose fence.

Summers Bounty

The Kitchen. The summers are busy with Canning, Freezing, Dehydrating, Fermenting, and Pickling the garden harvest. We also Brine, Smoke and Can the Salmon Brian catches in the Inlet near where we live during salmon season.

The Chickens. We raise our own meat birds and laying hens. Because we live in the far north, our coop has to be well insulated. We plan on expanding the coop to accommodate more birds. Our plan is to raise Chanteclers; a chicken bred for far northern climates.

The Rabbits. We have two bucks and two does. We breed them for the meat their kits provide. Every animal on our homestead has a purpose. The two does pictured are Poppy and Wednesday. They’re Rex breeds. One of our bucks, Shadow is on the bottom. He’s and Alaskan breed.
